SUMMARY:2 Day Introductory PODD Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come along to the 2-Day Introductory PODD Workshop for a must-have foundation in to PODD communication. \nPragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) is a complete communication system for individuals who cannot meet all of their communication needs with speech. PODD enables genuine\, autonomous communication in all daily environments for people who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). \nTwo Way Street has been helping people who use AAC\, their families\, friends and support networks for more than 10 years. Our highly trained Speech Pathologists work exclusively in AAC and our mission is to make our knowledge\, skills and experience in AAC accessible to all. \nThis workshop is presented by Two Way Street Director and Senior Speech Pathologist\, Janelle Sampson and the Two Way Street team. Janelle has more than 30 years as a practicing Speech Pathologist\, is a certified PODD workshop presenter and provides training and consultation around AAC with many organisations across Australia. During the two workshop days you’ll learn language functions\, navigation of different types of PODD\, effective modelling and there’s plenty of time for hands-on practice and Q&A.  \nGet your ticket now if you’re keen to increase your understanding of and confidence in communicating with the PODD communication system. \n“Remember that children will learn to use their (PODD) communication book in the way they experience others using their system to communicate”. Gayle Porter\, 2007. \nWho is this workshop for: \n\nSpeech pathologists\, OT’s\, physios and other Allied Health professionals working with children and adults who have complex communication needs\nTeachers and support staff in mainstream and special settings who have students using PODD in their class\nParents\, family\, friends and support workers who would like a more in depth understanding of their child’s PODD communication system\n\nWe’ll cover: \n\nPractical and creative solutions to enable PODD communication\, demonstrated through videos and case studies\nThe opportunity for hands-on supported practice using supplied PODD communication books (no need to bring your own!)\nCommunication system challenges and features around vocabulary organisation\, layout\, design\, range of access strategies and customising for individual requirements\nTeaching and learning strategies and support for the implementation of PODD communication systems with individuals and team members\n\nA comprehensive introduction to PODD communication that will answer many of your questions about specific communication needs. \nNOTE: Completion of this workshop is a prerequisite for extended training in PODD communication\, such as the 1-Day Alternative Access PODD workshop \nDate: \n22 and 23 November\, 2023 \nTime: \n9am – 4:30pm. Janelle is South Australia’s only Certified PODD presenter and provides training and consultation across Australia. She will provide a clear understanding of implementing and using PODD for successful and powerful communication.
