Preschool Boost

The Early Childhood Program Series

We integrate universal design principles with tailored strategies to meet the unique needs of your setting. Developed by experienced Speech Pathologists, the program leverages Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to support communication and social development for all children. This includes children with developmental delay, diagnosed and undiagnosed disability, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children who learn better with visual support.

CFA Environments. Communication For All Programs for Preschool Boost

1. Communication for All | Environments

Create a communication-inclusive preschool with practical strategies and communication tools. This training introduces multi-modal communication and effective ways to support all children. Educators learn how to identify needs, engage families, and foster inclusion.

Includes:

  • Introduction to AAC and multi-modal communication
  • Strategies for identifying and supporting communication needs
  • Guidance on interacting with children and engaging families
  • A starter kit with symbolic communication boards, sign posters, and instructional videos
  • An in-person 1.5-hour training session

2. Local and Customised Solutions

One of our experienced Speech Pathologists will conduct a ‘friendly audit’, assessing communication strategies and staff needs through observation and discussion. A tailored report outlining recommendations will guide resource selection and customised training.

Includes:

  • Initial phone consultation with leadership to understand key challenges
  • Staff survey to assess confidence and communication needs
  • On-site observation and discussion with educators
  • Detailed report outlining recommendations with suggested tools and training
  • An in-person 2 hour customised training session
  • Optional addition: Filmed interactions for training

3. Making It Happen

Hands-on coaching from an experienced Speech Pathologist to support the integration of visual supports into daily routines. Three follow-up visits provide live demonstrations for group activities and mentoring in natural interactions. Families are inspired to incorporate communication strategies at home via a special workshop for parents/guardians.

Includes:

  • Three site visits for real-time coaching and mentoring
  • Demonstrations of group activities like circle time and story time
  • Practical support for implementing communication tools
  • An in-person 1.5 hour parent information session on using visual supports at home
  • Parent information session on using visual supports at home
  • Take home visual tools for families.

4. Emotional Development

Support emotional well-being through inclusive communication. This training explores the link between emotional and language development, offering tools to help children express feelings in diverse ways.

Includes:

  • Training on the connection between emotional and language development
  • Strategies to support emotional expression for all children
  • Tools and techniques for enabling interactions in various communication modes
  • A starter kit with emotional development resources and posters
  • An in-person 1.5 hour training session

5. Communication Champions

Advanced coaching for staff passionate about inclusive communication. Up to five Q&A sessions with our experienced Speech Pathologists to provide in-depth mentoring, resource development and sustainability planning, ensuring long-term success.

Includes:

  • Coaching and mentoring for key staff members
  • Support in creating and implementing sustainable communication practices
  • Development of tailored resources
  • Up to five Q&A sessions

Roadmap of Communicative Competence

Two Way Street is affiliated with the Roadmap of Communicative Competence (ROCC), a tool to identify, plan and implement communication change among your school’s students.

The ROCC acts like a roadmap to create a shared understanding for your school around 10 key domains of communication. You can use the ROCC to track progress of your students across time, or you can use it to compare the scores for different scenarios. 

The ROCC can be used to assist educators to create goals and objectives for achievable next steps along the continuum towards communicative competence at an individual, group or whole site level.
